Building specialists Duncryne, based in Scotland, is the sole supplier of EconicBoard to the UK’s construction and engineering sectors.

The fire-resistant and structurally strong building board has been used in several notable projects including Europe’s largest hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow, and Edinburgh’s Haymarket railway station. The EconicBoard is a versatile, multipurpose building board which can be used as a backer board for tiling and render applications as well as a sheathing board for timber and steel frame construction.

In 2011, Duncryne saw the ongoing need across the UK construction and engineering industry for high-quality fire-resistant building boards which led them to develop EconicBoard. Similar boards had been in use for a number of years in the far east. Following initial enquiries, Duncryne quickly found that there were numerous potential manufacturers in China along with significant legal differences, complex logistics and language barriers. These challenges, coupled with the fact the building board product had to be of a consistently high quality to meet all UK construction industry regulations, led Duncryne to work with Continuum.

Co-founder of Duncryne Ltd. David McBeth said: “When we were choosing a product, and a manufacturer, our number one concern was the quality. Continuum went to 20 different factories and fed back information in order for us to find the right factory.”

Since 2011, Continuum has managed all communication with the manufacturers, ongoing quality control and the logistics of delivering the EconicBoard to the UK.

David McBeth continued: “We trust them. Continuum are always keen to help us; it feels that we have another member of the team out in Shanghai, and we find that invaluable.”
